I showed you here what my new {kids} art display looks like!
Here are 10 easy steps to a new art display!
(it really is easy....I promise!)
Supplies needed:
1x8 pine boards
Spray paint
Sandpaper
Large paper clips (found mine @ Walmart; $1.88 for 2)
Wood glue
Picture hangers
1. Measure your wall space, and decide how long you want your boards to be.
2. Go to your local hardware store, pick out your boards, and have them cut to
size.
(this will save you so much work-they usually will cut your boards for free!)
3. Spray paint your boards (several light coats)
4. Sand down the edges (if you liked the distressed look)
I really like my 3M sanding block. It has lasted me a long time. It's way easier to hold than a piece of sandpaper.
5. Evenly space your clips across the board, and mark when you want them.
6. Use wood glue (or gorilla glue, etc) to glue your large clips on.
7. Install the picture hangers to each end of your board.
8. Hang on wall. (and attach art of course!)
9. If you want vinyl lettering, you can cut it yourself using a Cricut (that's what I did), or find a vinyl shop online-there are tons! I used the font "Freeze" and it can be found for free here
10. Done!
What a great idea...this is going in my "file". Stop over to enter a giveaway!

I love these. My favorite part is the masterpieces above it. so cute! Come link up for a chance to win my Get Organized Giveaway!
ReplyDeletehttp://wildflowersandwhimsy.blogspot.com/2010/11/get-organized-giveaway.html
That is so clever! Now, I don't have little kids at home any more (my 'baby' is 20) but I can see using this idea to display old scrapbook pages during the holidays. Wouldn't it be fun to have some Christmas layouts from 'back in the day' where everyone can see them? Or Easter or Birthdays or any holidays?
ReplyDeleteHey, you should make these up and sell them on Etsy!
Thank you! Was wondering how I could attach these without drilling right through the wood! DUH! I'm so glad you figured it out for me!!! Awesome font too by the way!!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic. I love how much it can hold. Super cute.
ReplyDeleteLove this project.Maybe I will do this to display my daughters art.
ReplyDeleteHave a look at this article

ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what else you've got!

ReplyDeleteThis is such a clever idea and my husband and I are going to give it a shot. Was wondering approximately how tall your letters are? Thanks so much!

So incredibly cute!!!
ReplyDeleteHow did you get that font? I don't think Cricut has a freeze font!
ReplyDeleteSo clever! What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteWarm blessings,
Spencer
@katie,
ReplyDeleteThe font is from http://www.kevinandamanda.com/fonts/. I used the program Sure Cuts a Lot to cut it out using my cricut. If you want/need more info, email me!

New Follower, I am not crafty by any means, but I think I can do this! As soon as my daughter is old enough I will be making one of these, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing more!!

Sarah I love this and want yo make this for my bestfriend's daughter. I am having a lot of trouble. I sent you an email.
ReplyDeletehow did you get this on your cricut?
ReplyDeleteHi-- I just wanted you to know that I found this link through pinterest and one week later, now have a similar "masterpieces" wall at my house. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Have wanted a way to display their art for so long. THANK YOU for sharing, and great instructions that even *I* could follow.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea, and would like to know which Cricut machine you used? I am just starting to look into the Cricut, and know very little about them, except that there are three versions.
ReplyDeleteDid you die cut each letter individually? Your ideas are absolutely darling! I cannot wait to get started!!! Ty.
Wow what a great idea. I am soo doing this!!!!
ReplyDeleteMaking mine right now!
ReplyDeleteI really love this idea....good work mama! :)
ReplyDeleteHow long are your boards cut? I'm trying to figure out how many clips to put on my 5ft boards.
ReplyDeleteHow long are your boards? Mine are going to be 5ft and I'm trying to figure out how many clips to put on them.
ReplyDeleteScordaro,
ReplyDeleteMy boards were 5 feet long. It's a great length!
Thanks. I'm starting it this afternoon. Can't wait to get them hung:)
ReplyDeleteJust finished mine and LOVE them! Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration! I have added your photo/link to my new blog post
ReplyDeletehttp://todolistmom.blogspot.com/2012/03/kid-art-hoarding.html
Feel free to spread the word ;)
Can't wait to make my own "Masterpiece" Display
Have a great wkend
So, the actual width of the board is 2 or 3 inches? Did you use an 8 foot piece of 1x2 or 1x4 and then cut it to the size you needed?
ReplyDelete@Megan,
ReplyDeleteThe width is 3.5 inches. I used 8 foot boards, and had them cut to 5 feet. If you are trying to save money, just have one cut in half. Hope that helps!
Sarah
How do you attach the letters to the wall?
ReplyDeleteI just bought a Cricut, but have yet to master it. How can I download fonts to it. It downloaded the FREEZE font to my computer. But am not sure of how to get the Cricut to work with it.
ReplyDeleteYOU really did a wonderful job of making this look so easy with the step by step pictures & instructions! Very cute!
ReplyDeleteAny chance you would consider selling the "masterpieces" vinyl lettering? I do not have a cricut and am not super excited about any of the online vinyl shops I have found.
ReplyDeleteSarah, would you consider selling the "masterpieces" vinyl lettering? I don't have a cricut and am not liking the options I am finding online.
ReplyDeleteLove these! I've been looking for an inexpensive, but cute, way to allow my daughter to display all of her masterpieces in her room. I'm thinking about using a magnetic paint on the wood first and then going over it with whatever color I choose (probably white). This way she could use magnetic clips and move them around for smaller or larger pieces.
ReplyDeletehow do i get the freeze font on my cricut?alusco@comcast.net
ReplyDeletehow do i get the freeze font on my cricut?? alsuco@comcast.net
ReplyDeleteHow big is the font?
ReplyDeleteHow far apart did you put the clips on the board? I can't seem to get then all evenly spaced apart.
ReplyDeleteHow far apart did you put each of the clips? I can't seem to figure out how to evenly space them.
ReplyDeleteWhat size font on the criket? I love this idea and have been wanting to do this for months.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the total dimension of the decal? Or what size did you use?
ReplyDeleteI did it and am so happy with how it looks. It looks like I paid someone to make at least my hallway seem put together and the kids are so excited by it!
ReplyDeleteWould you be willing to make and sell the letters? Apparently you can no longer get sure cut for the cricut? Amclar02@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteI have a non-profit organization Designs from the HeART. We just used your idea in a room, I hope you can look at our facebook page below to see how it turned out.

I love the "Masterpieces" idea. And I so want to do this for our boys art work.I don't have a Cricut, but one of my friends said I could borrow hers. She has a Cricut Expression. Can you tell me how to get these fonts onto a Cricut. I went to the free font website, but there is no instructions on how to get the font to your cricut machine.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your creativity and blessings,
Lori
I've never seen anything like this for kid's art display! love it! thank you! definitely going to share on Facebook @AZNannies
ReplyDeleteHi, I don't know if you'll get this, but I love this idea!!! I had been looking for something just like this and this will be perfect to hang my son's pre-school art projects!!!! I just wanted to know, I have a cricut, but do you have to have the computer software to use the "Freeze" font? I've never done vinyl lettering on it before. Any information would be appreicated, thank you!!
ReplyDeleteHow did you do the symbol at the begining and end?? I can't seem to find that??
ReplyDeleteHello, quick question if I don't have a cricket any other suggestion to make the letters??
ReplyDeleteJacynda
I am going to try to make this in my home. How far apart did you glue each clip? Thank you! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, and what color paint did you use?
ReplyDeleteJust made my "Masterpieces Wall" over the weekend and I am so happy with it! Thank you for the step by step instructions - even down to the exact clips that I found at Walmart! Mine is a little smaller than yours but still works perfectly for my kids' artwork. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this idea and am making them now. Are the swirls in front and back a part of the font, because I can't find them??
Thanks!
Nicole
I'm so glad I found this idea on Pinterest! I have a wall that goes between my kitchen and living rooms that is bare. I had no ideas how to decorate it. Now I do. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteDo you mind sharing where the embellishments come from? I can't seem to find anything like this. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI love the picture display. I am totally going to make this!!! Thanks for the great idea :) I am linking back to your post so that everyone can see the great pictures!!
ReplyDeleteI just bought the supplies to make this in my home. It is perfect! Thank you for the great idea!! I'm thinking about doing my vinyl smaller than the length of the board because mine will be 4 ft. How long are your boards and how far did you space the clips apart?
ReplyDeleteWould it be possible to post the link for the clips? I am having a hard time finding these exact ones.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I am featuring this on my site if you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing such a descriptive blog. I learned so much from this blog.
