{Chic} Tiered Stand Tutorial

It's been a LONG time since I blogged!

I firmly believe my blogging "break" has been good for me!

Now I'm BACK, and ready to share some fun projects with you.

{No Sew} Turtle Stocking

If you ask your child what their favorite animal is, how many say "Turtles!!!!"?

Well, Miss J does.  She even had a turtle themed birthday party-this kid loves turtles!

I was not surprised when she asked for a turtle stocking this year.  

A quick how to:

Supplies needed:

Felt

Glue Gun

Googly Eyes

Scissors

Pre-made plain stocking (got mine at Wal-Mart)

Start by cutting out your paper pattern.  

If you would like to use mine, just right click the picutre and save it/print it.

Cut the pieces apart to use and patterns; like so:

Lay your paper pattern on your felt, and trace around the pattern.  Cut each piece out.

Next, get ready to glue! Hot glue your pieces to your stocking.

Christmas Countdown {Frame} Tutorial

I am SO excited for Christmas!  I've been thinking about it since October.  

It is my favorite time of year!

To countdown the days until the big day, I decided I wanted something framed.  

I wanted something nice looking!

Here it is:

Now, for the quick How To!

Supplies Needed:

Frame (any size would work)

Chalkboard paint

Sponge paint brush

Christmas-y scrapbook paper

Vinyl lettering

Transfer tape (for your vinyl)

Contact Paper

Craft Stick

1.  Prepare your frame, if needed.  

Mine started out like this:

A few quick coats of Krylon Black spray paint, and it looked like this:

2.  Prepare the glass from your frame for painting-

3.  To make the chalkboard circle, you will be using contact paper as a pattern.  I used my Cricut to cut out a circle.  (you could cut out a circle by hand also) I simply placed the contact paper on my Cricut mat paper side down:

4.  Leave a good amount of space around the circle cut out, like so-

5.  Carefully peel off the paper, and apply your "pattern" to your glass.  Make sure you center the circle, and press down the edges firmly.  You don't want any paint to leak under the contact paper.

6.  Once you have centered your "pattern" you are ready to paint!

7.  Start painting inside the circle with your chalkboard paint.  It will probably take a few coats.

8.  While your chalkboard paint is drying, you can apply your vinyl lettering if you have some pre cut (just go to step 11!).  Or, if you are cutting your own vinyl, keep reading!

How to cut your own vinyl lettering:

      *  Apply your vinyl to your Cricut mat, color side up.

      *  You want the Cricut to cut through the vinyl, but NOT the paper backing.  To do this, your Cricut settings should be Speed (3), Pressure (3), Blade Depth (3).

     *  Once you have cut your vinyl, you want to "weed" it.  This means peeling off the excess vinyl around your lettering.  Like this:

 

    

*  Your vinyl should look like this when you are ready to apply it:

9.  To apply your vinyl, you will want to cut a small square of transfer tape and place it on top of your vinyl.

10.  Flip over your vinyl, and rub on it until it is stuck to your transfer tape.

11.  Center your vinyl under your chalkboard circle, and stick it on your glass.  Again use a craft stick to rub on the vinyl, and apply it to the glass.

12.  Repeat to apply the word "Christmas"

13.  For the background, I cut a piece of cardboard to fit the size of my glass.  I then went through my stash of cute Christmas scrapbook paper to find a background I liked.

14.  I cut my scrapbook paper to the size of my cardboard (it took two 12x12 pieces of paper), and used double stick tape to adhere it.

15.  I then put it all together!  Place your glass on top of your background, and put that inside your frame.

 oh, and of course use some chalk to write in your countdown number!

Christmas Countdown {Frame}

Damask Piggy Bank

Every now and again I find awesome treasures at Goodwill.  

Any thrifter will tell you it's hit and miss when you go thrifting!  

I found this little guy for $2...needs a little TLC!

To spruce him up, and make him fit for Miss J's room, all I needed was some primer and pink spray paint.

Here's the piggy during the transformation:

Very cute, but still missing something.....eyes, a nose and some decoration were in order!

If you read my blog regularly,  you know I LOVE damask!  

I went to Michael's and found some cuuuuute damask stickers.

Is this cute?  I love it!

DIY: {Kids} Art Display

I showed you here what my new {kids} art display looks like!

Here are 10 easy steps to a new art display!

(it really is easy....I promise!)

Supplies needed:

1x8 pine boards

Spray paint

Sandpaper

Large paper clips (found mine @ Walmart; $1.88 for 2)

Wood glue

Picture hangers

1.  Measure your wall space, and decide how long you want your boards to be.

2.  Go to your local hardware store, pick out your boards, and have them cut to

     size.

     (this will save you so much work-they usually will cut your boards for free!)

3.  Spray paint your boards (several light coats)

4.  Sand down the edges (if you liked the distressed look)

I really like my 3M sanding block.  It has lasted me a long time.  It's way easier to hold than a piece of sandpaper.

5. Evenly space your clips across the board, and mark when you want them.

6.  Use wood glue (or gorilla glue, etc) to glue your large clips on.

7.  Install the picture hangers to each end of your board.

8.  Hang on wall. (and attach art of course!)

9.  If you want vinyl lettering, you can cut it yourself using a Cricut (that's what I did), or find a vinyl shop online-there are tons! I used the font "Freeze" and it can be found for free here

10.  Done!
