Boy Chair Makeover

We have had this chair for a few years. I have never been that crazy about it....

The fabric is funky, and it's a little to....character-y for me.  Is that a word?

So, a makeover was in order!

First, I cut apart the old cover, and used it as a pattern.

I decided to go with a nautical blue and cream stripe, with polka dots for the seat.

Here is the chair, waiting for it's new cover:

Here it is after I finished sewing the cover:

Lovin' the polka dots:

Here's my little guy enjoying his "boy chair"!

  2. I've thought about cutting things up to use as patterns (like shirts and skirts and other stuff) and I am just too scared. I don't know why! This looks great!

  3. Yeah, well done! The chair looks totally fresh.

Can I...um...nibble his toes? He's so cute!

  4. Awe! It looks a lot cuter now than the original cover. Perfect for a little king! :)

I did the same thing to a beach chair for my little boy. It was too girly since I bought it at a rummage sale. So I had to cover at least the top part. :)

  5. Wow! I just passed up a chair like this at a garage sale because of the pattern. Looks as cute as a pottery barn chair...for none of the price! Can't believe I never thought to do that! YOu rock!

  15. I am working on this craft right now!
I got a hideous wiggles chair just like this, for $5, at a consignment store. can't wait to share the final result.
Im wondering if you did anything special for the bottom, and zipper?? I was thinking of just keeping the bottom intact, with the original fabric, and just sewing that on to the new fabric.

  16. Amanda,
I sewed the bottom fabric onto 2 sides of my "slip cover" and then hot glued the other two edges. It has stayed put for the past few months. You could just sew it to the original fabric if it doesn't seem like it would be too hard. I'm all about trying to find the easy way to do things! You could also try hot gluing velcro to 2 or 3 of the sides on the bottom. That would keep the fabric nice and tight. Good luck! I would love to see finished pictures!
