Nursery Reveal: Part 1

We are expecting our third baby in July!

When we found out it was a GIRL I was very excited!
I've been busy painting, sewing, and decorating for the last few months. The nursery is FINALLY finished!

I thought I would share it with you in stages....just to make you wonder what it looks like all together :)

I started with our crib.  I LOVE the lines of our crib, and the shape, and the fact that it doesn't have a drop down side.....but the color had to GO!

This is what I started with.

Again, I love our crib, and it has sentimental value (having been used by my two previous little ones), but I have never been crazy about the color.

So, I decided to go for it, and paint it!

I took six cans of Kilz Primer, six cans of Krylon spray paint, a few coats of a polyacrylic sealant.

(don't worry, I used a really good spray paint respirator to keep those fumes away!)

Here is the result:

And yes, I made the bedding myself.  A true labor of love!

I am so happy with how it turned out!

  11. This looks AMAZING! GREAT JOB!!!

I REALLY need to do our girls cribs, but I'm fumed out on the kitchen chairs I've been doing tonight and I can't bear the thought of doing TWO cribs. Maybe after a week I can rethink it...LOL!

  14. Yay! I am so excited for the tutorial. We just had our second and are getting ready to move him into the crib but I keep telling the hubs that I want to change the color first as I am not crazy about it at all either. It was a very similar color to your original crib. Congrats and it looks awesome I'm so excited to learn and take this new project on!

  15. I'm so glad to see this! I'm wanting to paint our crib for our 3rd baby due in May but was intimidated by the process. I like that you used spray primer and paint--guess I know what's on my to-do list!

  18. That looks great, Sarah! So fresh for your new arrival! I helped my daughter update a hand me down crib that was a light wood tone; I painted it Heirloom White for her for my granddaughter. What a difference paint makes!

  19. This looks great! I can't imagine the patience this took! I'm due with my first at the end of next month, and while we're DIYing almost every aspect of her nursery, I refused to paint the crib! Kudos to you...the paint plus the bedding really look amazing together!

  28. This looks amazing! You did & awesome job! congrads on baby#3! I'm pregnant as well with baby#3 which is a girl too! So I'm crafting away things for her nursery too! Would you mind sharing some tips on the bumper pad & skirt? I've done the crib sheet so far that's the easiest! I have plans for the bumper pad but stopped because I don't want it to be wrong. The crib skirt I'm debating on ruffles or no ruffles, plus have to measure the crib & stuff. But not due until sept so I got time!

  31. Quick question! First off, this is BEAUTIFUL! I already bought a second hand crib that is white, but has some scratch's on it that I want to paint. Is spray paint a "safe" choice? Knowing that babies will be putting their mouth on it?

    Thanks! :)

  32. Looks great! How much sealant did you use for the crib?

  33. I've been considering painting our crib, but have read stuff about needing to take extra precautions with baby furniture. For example I read that you need to be careful of the VOC level in the paint. Do you know if the spray paint that you used is safe for baby furniture if babies chew on the crib?
