Kids Art Display

So, I've had a problem for a while.  

It looks like this:

This the result of three things.

1.  Miss J LOVES "arts and crafts" time.

2.  Miss J can find tape, no matter where I hide it, and help herself to a piece.

3.  Miss J loves to help me "decorate".

So, I've been trying to come up with a solution. 

I mean, I love Miss J and Mr. A's art, but I don't love it taped randomly all over the house.

Some kind of art display was in order.

Now, it looked a little bare above the boards.....it needs some vinyl!

Perfect.  No more artwork taped to my walls!

{Applique} Wicked Witch Hat Tutorial

Last day of place mat tutorials!

On to the Wicked Witch Hat! 

This one was my favorite :)

• Cut out (2) pieces of white fabric to 15.25x15.25 inches (or use whatever measurements fit your table the best)
• Cut out (1) piece of tear away fabric stabilizer 15.25x15.25 inches (this will keep your fabric from puckering and moving as you applique)

• Cut out Witch Hat and hat band (see pattern below) 

 

• If you want lettering, cut out letters.  (I used my Cricut to cut out my letters, but there are a variety of ways to do lettering.)

 

• Lay the fabric stabilizer under your white fabric, and then pin the witch hat in place.

• Applique the hat to your fabric by satin stitching all edges.

• Pin hat band to the witch hat, and applique all edges with a satin stitch. (whoaaa. blurry, I know.  sorry guys!)

 

• If you are using lettering, pin the letters to your fabric, and satin stitch all edges. (using heat n bond to attach your letters is another way of doing it; I have used both methods)

• Pin remaining piece of white fabric to the piece with the appliques on it. (RIGHT sides together)
 

• Straight stitch all four edges, leaving a small hole to turn the fabric right side out.

 

• Turn fabric right side out and press with an iron.

• Top stitch around all four edges. 

• Done!!

{Applique} Boo! Pumpkin Place mat

I shared the how-to for the spider place mat here if you missed it!

Today I'm going to give you run down on the pumpkin place mat.  I thought this one was SO cute!

• Cut out (2) pieces of white fabric to 15.25x15.25 inches (or use whatever measurements fit your table the best)
• Cut out (1) piece of tear away fabric stabilizer 15.25x15.25 inches (this will keep your fabric from puckering and moving as you applique)

• Cut out pumpkin piece (see pattern below)
• Cut out pumpkin stem (see pattern below)

• Transfer the "lines" onto the cut out pumpkin with a pencil, pen, chalk, etc.  These lines will be your guide when you applique. (hopefully you can see the lines I drew on the picture below)

 

• If you want lettering, cut out letters.  (I used my Cricut to cut out my letters, but there are a variety of ways to do lettering.)

 

• Lay the fabric stabilizer under your white fabric, and then pin the pumpkin in place.

• Applique the pumpkin to your fabric by satin stitching all edges.
• Applique along all the transferred lines to give your pumpkin a more realistic look-should look like this:

• Pin stem to the pumpkin, and applique all edges with a satin stitch.

• If you are using lettering, pin the letters to your fabric, and satin stitch all edges. (using heat n bond to attach your letters is another way of doing it; I have used both methods)

• Pin remaining piece of white fabric to the piece with the appliques on it. (RIGHT sides together)
 

• Straight stitch all four edges, leaving a small hole to turn the fabric right side out.

 

• Turn fabric right side out and press with an iron.

• Top stitch around all four edges. 

• Done!!

{Applique} Creepy Spider Place mat

I showed you HERE what all three of my Halloween place mat designs looked like.  Check it out!

Here is the promised tutorial for how to make the Creepy Spider place mat.

• Cut out (2) pieces of white fabric to 15.25x15.25 inches (or use whatever measurements fit your table the best)
• Cut out (1) piece of tear away fabric stabilizer 15.25x15.25 inches (this will keep your fabric from puckering as you applique)

• Cut out pieces of web (see pattern below)
• Cut out spider (see pattern below)
• Lay the fabric stabilizer under your white fabric, and then pin the web base in place.

• Applique the web base to your fabric by satin stitching all edges.
• Pin web "rings" to web base, and applique all edges.

• Pin spider to white fabric, and applique around all edges using a satin stitch.

• Hot glue silver ric rac from the web base down to the spider.

• Pin remaining piece of white fabric to the piece with the appliques on it. (RIGHT sides together)
 

 

• Straight stitch all four edges, leaving a small hole to turn the fabric right side out.

 

• Turn fabric right side out and press with an iron. (be careful not to melt the ric rac)

• Top stitch around all four edges. 

• Done!!
